Every month our team compiles a list of small business and startup events that we’re interested in attending in Toronto and around Ontario. These startup events are particularly useful for entrepreneurs looking for help with startup sales and marketing. While a few of the organizations listed host a number of great startup events, but we’ve chosen to feature one event that we feel will be particularly useful for entrepreneurs.

These events may sell out fast, so if you’re interested in attending please contact the organization quickly to register. If you’re hosting a startup or small business event or have come across one you think should be included here, contact us by email or social media with your suggestions.

Startup Train

For the second year in a row, threefortynine.com has booked a first class train car to ship startups, investors, and the startup curious from the Toronto area to Montreal's International Startup Festival. On the train will be some of Canada's best-known investors and advisors, allowing entrepreneurs to meet, connect and spend focused time with the rockstars of the startup scene. Included in the ticket price is a ticket to the International Startup Festival, First Class travel to Montreal on a private VIA car, access to on-train events, access to the Glen Fraser bar, and participation in the Ontario Startup Tent. This is one of the startup events you don't want to miss.

MaRS Discovery District

MaRS is where entrepreneurs get the help they need, where all kinds of people meet to spark new ideas, and where a global reputation for innovation is being earned, one success story at a time. The often-free startup events at MaRS are ideal for start-ups, science, technology and social entrepreneurs looking to make connections and learn more about a particular aspect of business.

Startup Drinks

Startup Drinks provides an open space for entrepreneurs and small business owners to connect and share ideas. There are no presentations or pitches, just conversation and networking. To meet some of the up-and-coming people in the startup community, this is a great startup events to attend. These events are held regularly in a number of locations, including Toronto, Hamilton, and Waterloo.

EntrepreneursDen

EntrepreneursDen takes a keen interest in exploring entrepreneurship related issues. Expect to participate in activities, review recent trends and industry news, hear from dynamic guest speakers, participate in Q&A, and a host of quality networking opportunities.

Silicon Halton

Silicon Halton organizes a number of events throughout the year in the region Halton which including Burlington, Oakville, and Milton. Their monthly meetups and Peer2Peer include three main components; a key notes presentation, a get to know a member presentation, and time set out for networking. These events are catered to anyone at a startup – especially in the tech industry – that want to learn more about business best practices.

International Startup Festival

This event is a little outside the traditional geographic boundaries of the events we highlight, but this is an event too good to miss for Ontario startups so we’re highlighting it anyways. The International Startup Festival is a 3-day event on the business of startups held in the historic Old Port of Montreal. It brings together aspiring founders, groundbreaking innovators and veteran entrepreneurs from around the world to share thoughts, do business and have a lot of fun.

HalTech

HalTech’s mission is to act as a catalyst for innovation and commercialization by delivering services to help Halton-based enterprises start, grow and succeed. HalTech regularly hosts great small business and startup events.

Event: Marketing P2P – Website Conversion and Metrics

Hamilton Chamber of Commerce

The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, the “Voice of Hamilton Business” is committed to making the City of Hamilton a great place to live, work, play, visit and invest. The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, in concert with other community groups and various local businesses, regularly puts on a number of great events.

Rails Pub Night

This great informal social event in Toronto is perfect for anyone interesting in web development. People in the industry are able to gather along with both recruits as people in the web development start up community.

Innovation Factory

Innovation Factory helps advance Hamilton’s innovation community and serves as an inspiring, expert resource for entrepreneurs that fosters connections across the community and accelerates growth. VA Partners’ own Mark Elliott is regularly involved in planning the Innovation Factory’s Sales Peer-to-Peer events.
