How to Create Your Own Infographics

Infographics

People love visuals which is why infographics have become so popular. If you’re looking to improve your social media presence or do something different with your blog, consider creating an infographic. They are an easy way to convey great information, visually.
Here are 7 easy steps to create your very own infographic.

1. Choose a Topic

Think about your target audience and what they would be interested in. Choose a topic that will benefit your audience and so they may in turn share with their connections. We recently helped one of our clients, ComLinked create an infographic that they could share on their blog. Their target audience is B2B, so they brainstormed different topics that would be of interest to that community. They decided that their first infographic topic would touch on the relationship between the salesperson and customer.

2. Decide on a Title

Make sure your title is eye catching, and not too long. It should be to the point and describe what the infographic is about. After the team at ComLinked decided on their infographic topic, they determined that their first infographic would be entitled, 5 Steps to Avoid Losing Customers When A Salesperson Leaves. This is something that they felt their audience would find useful.

3. Collect Your Content

You don’t always need to create new content, chances are you might already have written a blog post that could be turned into an infographic. Look through you old material for inspiration. When you finally settle on a topic, scale it down. Infographics don’t require a lot of text to convey your message. The text portion should be short and to the point.

4. Choose a Program to Use

There are different ways that make it simple to create infographics. Websites like, infogr.am, visual.ly and piktochart make it quick and easy to create beautiful infographics. If you are more technically savvy, you can use programs in the Adobe Creative Suite to make your infographics from scratch, or download pre-existing templates that you can manipulate and make your own.

5. Choose Your Layout

Your infographic should grab the attention of the reader with its design. Colour scheme, font and layout matter. Take a few minutes before you start designing to get some inspiration by browsing the web and seeing what others have done.

6. Add Images

Use images, icons, charts or graphs to express your ideas. All of the above mentioned websites have a wide range of images to choose from to make your infographic aesthetically pleasing.

7. Share, Share, Share

Once you are happy with what you have created, make sure to share it. Post it on your website and share it to social media, which will give others the opportunity to share it as well.
