5 Tips for Managing Multiple Twitter Accounts

TwitterIf Twitter is a part of your social media marketing strategy, managing the Twitter account successfully is necessary to see positive results. While often times managing even one Twitter account can seem demanding, sometimes it is necessary to manage more than one account.

VA Partners manages social media for many small businesses and startups that lack the time or resources to do so, creating the need for us to regularly manage multiple Twitter accounts. Below I have included 5 tips for managing multiple Twitter accounts to help you overcome some of the challenges.

1. Use social media management tools

I personally use HootSuite and highly recommend it. HootSuite allows you to quickly view your social media information in one convenient place and keeps you up to date on the Twitter activity you need to follow to be successful.

2. Schedule tweets in advance

Another feature of HootSuite and similar tools is the ability to schedule tweets. By scheduling your tweets, you are able to maintain a consistent presence on Twitter throughout the day without the need to periodically stop to find, gather, and share great content. Scheduling Tweets for multiple accounts at the beginning of the day will help you stay focused and ensure you utilize the right content for the right account.

3. Track your tweets and followers

Utilizing a document to track your social media posts can provide you with a solid base for analysis. This document can help you identify if you are meeting key Twitter goals, such as meeting a weekly quota of Tweets that link back to your organization’s website or blog, or sharing content from your organization’s partners.  Monitoring follower growth can help you identify when your twitter goals or criteria need to change.

4. Create open searches

Another function of Hootsuite that I find very helpful is the ability to create open searches. By creating a search for each of the Twitter handles you need to monitor you can quickly identify when someone interacts with one of your Twitter accounts. This will allow you to quickly respond accordingly without the need to be present on all Twitter accounts at all times. You can also create open searches on keywords in order to easily find interesting content to share.

5. Build lists

Building and utilizing lists for each of your social media accounts can help ensure that content relevant to the focus of the specific account can be easily found and shared. Lists can also be used to segment Tweets based on your specific social media goals, such as finding and sharing content from industry leaders or exploring new developments in your industry.
